Call for Papers

Deadline for the forthcoming regular issue: 6 November 2026

JBEGS invites original research on the built environment of the Global South.

This is a call for our regular issue, so it is open rather than themed. We welcome work across architecture, urbanism, planning, landscape, conservation and heritage, housing, infrastructure, and the pedagogy of the built environment, wherever the argument is grounded in Global South conditions. Historical, theoretical, empirical and practice-based submissions are all in scope, as are contributions from practitioners and early career researchers.

We are particularly interested in scholarship that looks inwards rather than toward the West or the Far East, that amplifies indigenous perspectives, and that emerges from within communities rather than translating external discourses.

Review and access

All submissions undergo peer review. JBEGS is an online open-access journal.

JBEGS publishes two issues each year, one regular issue and one focused special issue. The current call is for the regular issue, which is why it is broad rather than themed. Calls for special issues are announced separately.
